SANCTIONING AN EVENT
“Sanctioning” means
to following a specific set of rules. In
the case of Lone Star Barbecue Society (LSBS) it means promoters and cooks
following the rules we have set forth.
LSBS, a non-profit
organization, is interested in helping other non-profit groups by providing them
with a method to earn money to benefit their charities.
LSBS
will provide you with a customized mailing list to cover the area around your
city from 100 to 150 miles out.
We
will provide a Head Judge who runs the judging area. Most of our Head Judges are married to competition cooks.
These cooks will be participating in the event. If a Head Judge is not part of a
competition team you will be asked to provide lodging and reimbursement for gas.
These are rare occasions and we would advise in advance.
LSBS
recommends that you purchase a Promoter’s Manual ($15). This manual will take
you through most of the things you will encounter before and during a cookoff.
Other
charges: You will pay for supplies (at cost; we do not make any money on these
items) used during the cookoff; i.e. turn in trays for the cooking teams and
cups for beans.
Please
remember that it is YOUR cookoff! We will run your judging which let’s the
cooks know it is fair however, everything else, i.e. the Master of Ceremony and individuals to hand out the awards
and pull the tickets from the trays is your
responsibility. We prepare the winners list for you. We are an advisory body to
help you and offer whatever advice you may need.
Whenever possible we prefer an LSBS representative meet with prospective promoters and their committees before forming a partnership with them. Please call and discuss your event with us 817-261-9507
